Yamaha ns-a1738 manual

I have a sony upconverting dvd player with hdmi , and a panasonic 50 inch plasma tv i, with one hdmi input. Right now I have an hdmi switch that I use with my directv dvr and the sony dvd player, as the tv only has one hdmi input.

The onkyo receiver has 3 hdmi inputs and 1 output, I believe, and it is hdmi passthrough. Here is my question. If I use my dvd player to play a music cd, how do I get music to my speakers through the hdmi cable if this receiver only does passthrough? I have done a little research, and if I read right some av receivers have switching instead of passthrough, but I dont know how this works in relation to my problem of trying to play a music cd through my dvd player and listen to it on my speakers I am only going to use 2 at this time I may change that in the future, but for now that is it.

Does anyone know of a receiver that would be better for me to buy than this one, if this is a bad choice? Adam Audioholic Jedi. Hi, and welcome to the forum! The Onkyo is a nice receiver. Whether it's a good or bad choice will depend on if it will do what you want. It won't process audio over HDMI like you stated , but your Sony DVD player probably has either an optical or coaxial digital audio output that you could use to transfer digital audio to the that it can process.

Those have limitations of their own for example, the Yamaha doesn't have assignable inputs and can be problematic for components like a PS2. Like with the , it comes down to which features you want. I currently listen to the tv, and DVD player, through the tv speakers. However, many of the components in this system have various problems now, and it would be too expensive to fix or replace it all.

In addition, I am re-marrying in the not-too-distant future, and I have to consolidate to save space for when my fiancee moves in, as my house is fairly small.

So I want to upgrade my system so that it will do everything from one location. I just bought my speakers 2 nights ago. They are rated at 6 ohms, and handle a max of watts. They have a set of wire posts for high frequency, and another set of posts for low frequency, and a metal jumper bracket that connects the two sets of posts together. These are 4 way speakers, with 1 one inch tweeter, 2 six and a half inch midranges, and 1 fifteen inch side-firing woofer.

I know you can bi-wire, or bi-amp, these speakers. I am an audio noob, so I am not sure how the speakers will be wired, and I dont know what receiver I am going to get yet. It features class A power for clean sound. If your interested please Call Rick six.

No texting please! Thanks for looking and ch My personal unit. This receiver sounds and looks great. This is a vintage piece of audio equipment from the early 's.

I hooked up a cassette deck, turntable and compact disk player and all worked and sounded great.
