Removing the front license plate holder. Thread starter herbert68 Start date May 16, My Passat came with a front license plate holder, I assume it's because Chris Farnham sourced the car from a dealer in NY, but that front plate not needed in PA.
I really like to remove it — what suggestions do you have how to deal with the resulting holes in the front bumper? Put a Penn State tag on it, and support the local team! My UK plate looks real purty there They are not cheap, but they should match your bumper's color exactly. Have Fun! It's just two self-tapping screws, I believe. Pretty straight forward.
Mine were plastic rivets. You just push the center pins out through the back they fall behind the bumper and rattle around and pull the rest of the rivet out toward the front. I managed to easily remove the two plastic rivets.
But how do I remove the two connectors at the bottom of this assembly? PassatSE4me Veteran Member. You might get lucky with just wiggling it around. If not, there are tabs inside the honeycomb that need to be depressed to free it up. Not that it matters at this point but for the plugs I just used the same plastic rivets that came out. If the center lower grill comes with it, then it can be pushed back easily enough. Nothing but pliable plastic tabs down there. JoshMcMadMac Well-known member.
JoshMcMadMac said:. The easiest way is to remove the grill, then you can reach down behind the bumper and depress the tabs that are holding the bracket in. Mine were pretty tough to get loose, so I would be hesitant to try and yank it straight out. Thank you for your suggestion Josh. I would need some advise how to remove the grill, I have never done that. I'm fairly able with my hands, but I'm certainly not claiming to be a mechanic.

Thread starter sullystull Start date Aug 21, I'm in a non-front plate state but purchased the car in VA where they have front plates. How easy is it to remove the mounting bracket? If I do remove it, it appears I'll be left with holes in my bumper. Is this the case? Thanks for the how-to guide on removing the bracket. The car was a dealer transfer and for some reason, already had the bracket mounted.
I may leave it Dariof Veteran Member. Joined Oct 27, Location So. Remove the license plate brackets. You can figure out how to do that.
